Meritus University has been founded on more than 30 years of academic excellence, opportunity, and accessibility. These themes have become the common thread throughout all of Apollo Group's institutions. Founded by Dr. John Sperling, a Cambridge-educated economist and professor, Apollo Group's institutions are the realization of his vision that academia should be held accountable to students and the organizations who hire them.
While others established academic programs around tradition and tenure, Apollo have built programs in conjunction with the needs of business and industry - effectively translating those needs into clear and transparent learning objectives. While other institutions were only beginning to introduce technology into the classroom, Apollo mandated it - creating its first online learning platform in 1989.
Following review of program proposals by the Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission, Meritus University has received approval to offer its first three programs from the New Brunswick Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, thereby establishing degree-granting status.
We recognize that adult professionals often face obstacles that prevent continued commitment to classroom instruction. Students and faculty members may be employed in remote areas, may travel extensively for their work, or may be transferred following the start of a degree program. Because the University exists to provide educational services to adult learners, it has been designed to enable life-long learning and instruction through distance education - specifically via a completely online modality.
Meritus University offers bachelor and master degree programs through a completely online modality; however, we may in the future offer courses and complete degree programs through a face-to-face classroom environment and a blended modality of online and face-to-face instruction.
OLS is a computer and web-based learning environment that offers a convenient medium for faculty-to-student and student-to-student interaction. An easy-to-use, easy-to-access system, OLS enables you to “go to class” to engage in individual and group discussion and lectures, anytime via the Internet. OLS works with most Internet Service Providers. Its familiar Windows-type format makes navigation fast and easy. A full set of capabilities allows you to complete 100% of your education and administration online. Even without the new software, you can log on to our web site, regardless of internet provider, participate in the online classroom, check e-mail, and access a whole range of student services.
Thanks to the flexible nature of online learning, you may commence your program of study at select start dates throughout the year. At present these are monthly but will increase to bimonthly and eventually weekly dates. This allows adult students to balance their personal life, career and education, without needing to adhere to a rigid, semester-based calendar.
